Curricular Objectives
By the end of this session students are expected to:

1. Recall the male and female pelvic viscera
2. Review parts of large intestine & their location within abdominal and pelvic cavities
3. Summarize the location, mesentery and blood supply of sigmoid colon
4. Describe the rectum, its main relations and blood supply
5. Underline the role of puborectalis muscle in supporting continence
6. Outline the blood supply of the rectum and anal canal
7. List the veins involved in porto-sytemic anastomosis
8. Define internal hemorrhoids and state the type of pain associated with it
9. Discriminate between the course of ureters in male and female pelvis
10. Recall the three sites of constrictions of ureters
11. Acknowledge the importance of relating the ureters to local bone markings
12. Describe the shape, function, & location of the urinary bladder
13. Outline the differences between male and female bladder regarding its relations
14. Describe the location, function, lobes, and the ducts within the prostate
15. Define the terms “urine retention” and “suprapubic aspiration of bladder”
16. List the layers of AAW traversed during suprapubic aspiration
17. Outline the function & location of different parts of male reproductive system
18. Outline the function & location of different parts of female reproductive system
19. Describe the blood supply of the ovaries, uterine tubes and uterus
20. Discuss how the peritoneal cavity connect to the exterior of the body in female
21. List the attachments of the broad ligament and the blood vessels within it
22. Summarize the different positions of the uterus
23. Define the term “hysterectomy” and acknowledge the risk of the procedure on ureter
24. Describe the vaginal fornices
25. Acknowledge the close relation between posterior vaginal fornix and pouch of Douglas
26. Compare the course of urethra in male and female
27. Follow the peritoneum as it passes over the pelvic viscera
28. Compare the spaces created by peritoneal reflections in male and female
29. Outline the location and boundaries of the perineum and its two main triangles
30. Describe the venous drainage of the anal canal and its role in hemorrhoids
31. Outline the major structures forming the penis
32. List the layers forming the wall of the scrotum
