Background : flour dust is a heterogeneous substance which causes many respiratory diseases and symptoms to the flour mills workers , this effect increase with duration of exposure .
Objectives : to evaluate the pulmonary function test and its association with different variables for the flour mills workers in Al-Hilla city .
Methods : a comparative cross sectional study was done on 68 flour mills workers men , and 70 men comparison group, all participants were healthy non smokers and matched for age ,weight and height , pulmonary function test were performed by portable electronic spirometer , and respiratory symptoms were also assessed for both groups , and results were statically analyzed by a paired t-test and chi squared .of flour mills workers when compared to their predictive values and comparison group ( p- value < 0.05) , and there s increase respiratory symptoms among flour mills workers more than comparison group , and the decline of lung efficiency increases with prolongation of work duration
Conclusion : prolong exposure to flour dust causes significant reduction in the lung function and increase work related respiratory symptoms of flour mills workers in Al- Hilla city .
